The 2nd Essex Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Open will be held on May 3rd at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham. British WEKAF Stick Fighting Championships 2009 Results! Roger Barnes R.I.P

Roger training with Danny last Summer in the Fillipines Brandon has successfully defended his British Title, taking Gold at yesterdays Event! Danny, Stewart and Terry all fought hard on their way to the Semi-Finals just missing out on Medal success... Sadly the Event was mired by the sudden death of WEKAF GB President and current World Champion Roger Barnes, who died suddenly whilst cornering one of his Team. I first met Roger 10 years ago when he attended my classes at the BB Academy in London. Our thoughts are with Rogers Family. RIP Brother.. New Belts for the Dartford MMA BJJ Team

Wow what a fab Seminar last night from Mestre Marc Walder! Now in our 5th year hosting Seminars for Marc, this time we had the added bonus of Gracie Barra Brown Belt Shane helping out. Marc worked Submission Counters, starting with the Americana, then on to the X-Choke and Amasso Pao. After putting them together in a flow Marc focused on passing the Guard when caught in an Arm Bar attempt or Triangle. The best was saved for the last as we drilled a sneaky choke to apply as we are caught in the Triangle! You might think "solid but basic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu"...but with Marc's attention to detail and the gems he drops, there is always a whole new level to absorb...great stuff! Many congratulations to everyone promoted. Special congrat's to new Blue Belts: Terry Barnett who at 48yrs young, received his Blue Belt after 2 years of training. Charlotte who at 16yrs old became our youngest Blue Belt (at 40kg she is a terror!!) Lee - great job from the big guy Barry - after eye surgery he is back on the Mats - well deserved Many thanks to all Students, Marc and Shane for a quality night of first class Martial Arts! Was v pleased to recieve a signed copy of his new book "Sparring" from Guro Bob Breen last night. After reading it i have to say it offers sound advice on the fundementals, tactics and strategy of Striking for beginers and the more expierenced Martial Artist alike. Dartford MMA BJJ Team - Medal Success!

A great day for the Dartford Mixed Martial Arts BJJ Team at the Bristol Brazilian Jiu Jitsu open! All fighters fought hard and represented well as expected. Luke took Bronze in the Adult Featherweight division (winning one fight by a very dominant 15-3 points!) a great achievement from our former Junior Team Member! Gaz took Bronze in the Blue Belt Masters Lightweight category! I have to say this was Gaz's best performance on the Mat's, inc a great submission in his first fight over his Gracie Barra Opponent! Ben, Sky and Leigh all fought hard in divisions which had up to 35 fighters in them. They were all cheered on by fellow Academy Team mates (all wearing our new Ltd edition Hoodies!) whom had made the 300 mile round trip in support and helped create a bonding experience and one that makes our Academy so special (especially great to see the Girls in attendance Shereen, Meg, Charlotte and Big Lee of course)! Ricky had to pull out on the morning of the competition due to a knee injury despite warming up and really wanting to fight. We made the right decision and Rickys frustration showed another great example of our Fighting Spirit... Want to be part of this unique Team?
