UFC 118

Another excellent Fight Card by The UFC, this time the selling point was MMA vs Boxing!

• Randy Couture Vs James Toney

To be honest it was hard to get excited for this one as the out come was inevitable to me. Boxing great Toney always stood a punchers chance, but Randy called it as it happened (Take down, GnP then finish).

It went exactly to Capt America's plan: Low single leg straight to Mount, strikes to set up the submission (in this case the Arm Triangle - see also Brock Lesner Vs Shane Carwin) then the tap. Randy's was in incredible shape and will have few easier 1st Rd Victories!

• Frankie Edger Vs B J Penn

This was always going to be a tough fight for BJ. Coming of a loss to Frankie he needed no more motivation other than revenge. However Frankie proved most critics wrong by actually improving on his previous performance. I had him winning every round. Never (at lightweight) has BJ been so dominated. He was taken down 6 or so times, out boxed and at times had little answer to Frankie who kept mixing things up with his tremendous work rate. Frankie won the decision after 5 Championship Rd's.

• Kenny Florian Vs Gray Maynard

I thought Kenny would edge this, but Gray had other ideas. Fighting in front of his home town, Kenny came off second best to Maynard whose Wrestling skills dominated the fight and whom took the decision.

Not sure where this leaves Kenny in the weight division, but he is a class act and i'm sure will be back fighting for the No 1 contender spot asap.

Brighton BJJ Open 21st Aug!

Wow! Another excellent Card that lived up to the hype!

Anderson Silva Vs Chael Sonnen


Total domination by Chael in all 5 Rd's, some i would have given a 10:8.
Superb wrestling skills and take downs with a constant barrage of strikes from inside Silva's Guard.
Finally in the last of the Championship Rd's Silva took advantage of Sonnen's over zealousness and slapped on a Triangle, before switching to the arm bar forcing the tap as Sonnen tried to escape. Silva left it late (he had the sub opportunity in every Rd. Check his wrist control during the fight), but remains the Champ!

Matt Hughes Vs Ricardo Almeida


The Gracie Barra Professor was all set to avenge Renzo's loss to Matt, when after showing good stand up, he was clipped and dropped before Matt got sprawl control and squeezed tight and i mean tight!. I expected him to drop to his back and sink in the Darce but no...Ricardo was out cold to what was a muscled arm triangle. Impressive power from the former Champ!

Roy Nelson Vs Junior Dos Santos


In all honesty, i could only ever see this going one way. Both big punchers, thou Junior far more versatile in timing and combinations, Big Country was rocked often but showed why he won the IFL with a durable display gaining many an arm chair supporter by surviving and taking the fight to the Judges.

At the Dartford Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy we teach Juniors from ages 8-15.
We offer a variety of classes catering for all levels of Student.

Tues 18:30 - Kickboxing
Weds 18:30 - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Thursday 18:30 - Boxing

These Classes are integrated with Adults to provide an optimum learning curve and are great fun!
This also enables Parents/Guardians to train with their Children in a safe and friendly environment

Classes are £5 per Lesson and we are open all Summer!
