Wow, another amazing evening at The Academy! Firstly many thanks to Ian and to all those that supported the event, especially in light of the weather & Tube Strike. We had attendees from Essex, Herts, Kent and Surrey.
After a brief introduction, Ian had us partnered up. gloves and focus pads at the ready. We covered the following drills:
- Triple Jab variations
- Jab. Cross and Hooking Combinations
- 3 x Variations of the Hook in 3 x different ranges
- 3 x Defence vs The Hook (Sway back, Bob & Weave, Cover)
- Jab, Shoulder Roll vs Cross & Triple attack response
After a brief break, we began the Sparring Drills:
- Rear Heel against the wall (so you cant use footwork) Defence only vs Striking Partner
- As above but both Striking
- Free Movement but Jab only vs Striking Partner
- Several Rounds of Boxing Sparring
What makes Ian such an excellent Instructor is; His enormous knowledge and wealth of detail in the material, His ability to pass that on with structure and phrases that aid retention (e.g the three H's, Heels, Hips and Hands) and his humour/humility.
Many stayed nearly an hour after the Seminar, chatting, buzzing and simply recovering before the drive home.
As always a tremendous atmosphere at Dartford BJJ. Great work ethic, supremely High Level Martial Arts Instructors in attendance, all bonding, caring and sharing (and Punching each other in the Face lol).
Early in 2011 we have Professor Marc Walder (BJJ) and Guro Terry Barnett (Muay Thai) Teaching and imparting their tremendous knowledge. Cant Wait!
We have copies of Ian's best selling book & dvd "Boxing fitness" at The Academy..a few signed copies available..add to your Chrimble list :)
